One of our tours is going to be on the BBC!

We are absolutely beaming with pride here at SGWT. One of our tours is going to be featured on BBC 1 this coming 26th June.

Last year, brothers Chris and David Garnsworthy approached SGWT to help them research the movements of their great uncle, Victor Hember. One of the brilliant SGWT team, Steve Chambers, took on the research task, and then guided the Garnsworthy family across the Somme and other locations that Victor served and fought.

His words survive in over 70 letters discovered in their parents' attic, written from the trenches, until his death on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1st July 1916.

Helping a family stand on the ground where their ancestor fought, and connect his letters to the landscape itself, is exactly why we do what we do. These are the moments that remind us battlefield touring is about bringing someone's story home to the people who carry it forward.

The documentary marks the 110th anniversary of that first day of the Somme, and we couldn't be more honoured that Victor's story, and the part we played in helping Chris and David trace it, will be told to a whole new audience.

Tune in on 26th June, 19:30, to 'What Happened at the Somme' on BBC1.
